General Pathology includes a number of distinct but inter-related medical specialties that diagnose disease—mostly through analysis of tissue, cell, and body fluid samples. A physician practicing pathology is called a pathologist.

The Laboratory team at Cary Medical Center and partner organizations help analyze known clinical abnormalities that are markers or precursors for both infectious and non-infectious disease. Cary Medical Center’s laboratory department is fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). CAP accreditation is only granted to laboratories who have achieved the highest standards of excellence. This is based on rigorous inspections by independent laboratory professionals.
